U.S. Still in Early Stages of Shale Gas Development

The U.S. natural gas landscape continues to be "dominated" by nascent shale gas, said Octavio Simones, president of Sempra LNG & Midstream. Mr. Simones says the U.S. is still in the early stages of developing its gas sector, with less than 6% of possible shale gas potential unleashed. Advantages to doing business in the U.S. Gulf Coast include access to an abundance of low-cost resources and the most liquid physical and financial markets, he notes. Moreover, U.S. LNG is "becoming more competitive due to the declining feed gas price and escalating oil price," Mr. Simones says.
